Structure of the gas industry

The chart below illustrates the main parts of the upstream and downstream gas sectors. The upstream sector is governed primarily through the Crown Minerals Act 1991, administered by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment. Gas Industry Co's role under the Gas Act encompasses the downstream sector, comprising processing facilities, transmission, distribution, wholesale and consumer markets. Gas Industry Co's regulatory oversight encompasses the downstream sector comprising processing facilities, transmission, distribution and the consumer markets.
