Downstream Gas Issues - a presentation at the Downstream 2015 Conference by Simon Coates
For the Downstream 2015 Conference on 4-5 March, Simon Coates of Concept Consulting spoke about downstream gas issues. His presentation is available below.
Simon’s presentation covered three main areas:
1. How well does retail gas competition in New Zealand compare with overseas markets? His conclusion: Very well, but some questions remain about whether / what further regulatory and political action is required to improve customer engagement and address fuel poverty.
2. The relative success of new entrant gas retailers and dual energy propositions.
3. The challenges facing New Zealand from the current ‘flat’ price structure of consumer electricity and gas tariffs, and the implications for consumers making the right energy decisions.
(Simon is a Director with Concept Consulting, and has produced a number of reports for Gas Industry Co on future supply / demand scenarios, consumer energy options, and new gas discovery commercialisation options).
